Customers complained about taxi driver: If you do have to take a taxi for any reason, pay very close attention to the meter. We watched ours jump from 10,000VND to 140,000VND a block into our trip.
If you’re going to be travelling a sizeable distance, maybe see if your hotel has a car/driver.
Complaint about taxi scammer: We always use the grab for traveling in Hanoi and choose the payment method by credit card. This method those taxi drivers cannot cheat us. However on the day we traveled to the airport from the old city in Hanoi, we also used the grab and want to pay by cash. First he turn on the meter and say something confusing us like it’s gonna be a bit more expensive from the Grab expect price .. and I just told him we will see on the meter …. and then when we arrive at the airport he get the ticket get into the airport and he told us that we have to pay for the ticket 100,000 vnd at that time was so confused and we did not read any reviews about that yet we really didn’t want to pay him for that at all but it’s rush time and he told us he gave discount. The showing price at the meter was 371,000 vnd and 100,000 vnd for the ticket get to the airport the total 471,000 vnd we refused to pay that and he just discount to 450,000 vnd we very rush and super tired then gave him the money. And found out that he cheated us after the receive sent to my email and try to contact the Grab told about the problem…. and nothing update from the grab yet….
So disappointed about that even we used the grab, poor cheating guys will always try to cheat on us if they see the chance !!! So if you use grab, choose the payment by credit card!!
Complaint about taxi: We travelled 2km in this taxi and were charged $500,000VND ($30AUD) . Later in the day we travelled the same route in a GRAB and were charged $28,000 ($2AUD). That is 15x the price. Absolute rip off!!!!
Complaint about fake taxi: We knew the taxis were more expensive than Grab (vietnamese uber). But it was raining like crazy and we didn’t want to wait… so we took a normal taxi. A 15 minute drive cost over 550.000 dongs (24 dolars), more expensive than the transfer the hotel arranged from there to Halong bay (3 hour drive)…
So… NEVER TAKE A TAXI
