There are some different ports in Halong Bay where Cruise ships can dock: Halong Bay port, Hai Phong port and Cai Lan port. Before you book a Halong Bay cruise, you need to know where you’re docked to inform the cruise organiser. This information will help them to pick you up easier.

Most ships dock at Halong Bay, about a 4 hour drive from Hanoi, because it’s one of the deep water ports and is a tourist destination in its own right. Tenders take passengers to shore at Bai Chay, the main tourist hotel strip. Some ships usually docks at Halong Bay Port: Costa ship, Celebrity Millenium Cruises, Ms Amsterdam Ship, etc.

Cai Lan is a relatively new deep- water port, more than 2km far from Bai Chay tourist wharf and is connected to Hanoi by a real highway (better than the roads from other ports to the city). Some cruise ship dock at Cai Lan port including: Costa Allergra Ship, SuperStar Ship, Henna Ship.

Haiphong is still used by some lines, such as Azamara, but most lines are leaving because the harbor is silting and getting shallower. In addition, there are no tourist attractions or facilities in the port area. It takes you about 2,5 hours to reach to Halong Bay from Hai Phong harbour by car.
